A Quick Look Ahead
What colour is Peignoir?
This dusky pink paint is warm, elegant and subtle, working well in either modern and traditional homes. Released in 2016 by Farrow & Ball, Peignoir is a delicate pink colour that provides a sophisticated look for any space it is used within.
If you are not familiar with the brand Farrow & Ball, all the paint colours have unique and interesting names. Peignoir takes its name from the floaty chiffon gowns that were popular ladies wear in the mid-1900s. There are many origins of this word, all relating to a lady’s long hair and the time at the end of the day when she would comb it at her dressing table.
It has been described as the perfect shade of soft pink paint. A great balance between a feminine or masculine vibe due to the hints of grey coming through. Some fans of Peignoir have said they initially felt that the colour would be too light from seeing the sample pot but it turned out to be the perfect colour once on the walls, whilst changing tones throughout the day.
Visit Farrow & Ball’s website if you love it already!
If you want to see how other’s have used this colour in their homes then keep on reading. There are some beautiful examples of Peignoir (or colour matched versions) used in different spaces. I hope these will give you some great inspiration for the best way to use this popular paint colour.
Peignoir in the Bedroom
This stunning bedroom above (and below) by @thethomasmanor with its beautiful period features looks great painted with Peignoir. As previously mentioned, this paint colour can change tones drastically depending on the light in the space.
Peignoir suits the space and the details of the bedroom, keeping the colour light and fresh.
Using decorative panelling adds interest to the walls and brings in shadows and highlights of the paint colour, also bringing out more tones that contribute to Peignoir’s uniqueness.
The above image is another angle of this stunning bedroom showing Peignoir being carried around the space. I love how this colour has been framed by the fresh white of the skirting board and the picture rail.
Alternatively, lots of people are currently enjoying the trend of painting skirting boards and window frames in the same colour as their walls, this colour would look great and would not be overpowering at all.
Throughout this blog post, I will be sharing great examples of Peignoir by Farrow & Ball in various styles of homes. Allowing you to see the colour used in so many unique and beautiful real homes.
This lovely bedroom by @renovating_220 has complemented the paint colour by pairing it with beautiful neutral bedroom accessories. The natural details such as wood, macrame cotton cords and woollen throw brings warmth into the space, keeping it light and airy but also welcoming.
Are you thinking about using this colour within your home? I would love to know in the comments below which colours you would use with Peignoir?
This lovely bedroom by @love.at.number.1 has used the light dusky pink tone of Peignoir alongside soft grey, white with accents of black. A soft, feminine colour palette that works really well together but is balanced out with pops of black detail.
Balancing soft details with harder finishes is a good way to keep the eye moving across a room. Keep the space visually interesting by adding these colour layers to the room and not allowing it to get ‘too samey’.
Whilst we are talking about layers, check out this gorgeous bedroom above by @love_this_old_house and how inviting it feels. Here, wallpaper has been added alongside a Peignoir colour match which compliments it perfectly. It also allows for other colours to be added to the room easily, in this case, lots of soft pastel tones.
The flower wreath above the bed pulls the floral detail from the wallpaper across the room. Layering your bed takes the warmth and cosiness of your bedroom up a notch, creating a beautiful space.
My last bedroom example of Peignoir by Farrow & Ball is this lovely image by @victorianhomebythesea. They have taken their bedroom design more modern than the previous examples, showing how great this paint colour can look paired with different styles.
Clean lines and fresh white furniture look great with Peignoir. By adding the blush pink fur cushion, textured ceiling light and ballerina picture, the delicate pink tones of the paint are brought out.
I hope seeing Peignoir used in various styled rooms give you some ideas and inspiration on how this paint colour could look in your room if it is a colour you are considering. Keep reading to see how this colour looks in other spaces of the home.
Peignoir in the Living Room
Feature walls are a great statement in your home and perfect for trying out a stronger colour without it overpowering a room. Peignoir is perfect for adding colour to your living room to create a calm and relaxing vibe.
This beautiful living room by @homebyla has some lovely traditional features and has created a relaxing space with candles and natural materials such as stone and pampas grass.
This image from @terrimade_interiors makes my heart sing. Every part of this living room is calming, cosy and makes me want to jump straight onto that sofa for a chilled afternoon.
Peignoir really is a paint colour that is enhanced by its surroundings so by using a neutral colour palette, the colour is soft and delicate.
To recreate this look, remember the tricks of layering and adding accents of black in the space. Adding lots of little details around the room allows the eye to keep moving around the space discovering something new with each glance.
Which style or colour palette is your taste? I’d love to know in the comments section at the bottom of the post.
Lastly, for the living room inspiration images, we have another traditionally styled space. This time @theoldredhouse have carried Peignoir up onto the detailed cornice. Covering the full details of the walls as well as the cornice creates a beautiful feature in this grand room.
If you aren’t quite ready to take paint colour onto your ceilings then this could be a great way for you to add a unique look to your living room.
Peignoir in the Hallway
As we move on to using this Farrow & Ball paint colour in the hallway, this is the space where Peignoir can drastically change tones. A lot of hallways don’t have a lot of natural light, creating moodier spaces. Whilst other hallways may be bathed in bright light, resulting in a completely different feel to this colour.
The above image from @littleterracedhouseonthehill shows this paint colour being quite a pink tone, creating a delicate, feminine vibe to the space. Whilst the below image from @holman_home shows Peignoir with more lilac tones showing through.
Both hallways are gorgeous and welcoming, and a great example of how versatile this paint colour can be.
What do you think of this colour so far? Can you see yourself using it in your home? Let me know in the comments at the end of the post, it’s always great hearing others opinions.
Peignoir in the Bathroom
Now, on to seeing how Peignoir can look in a bathroom and used with different styles. This lovely bathroom from @renovate128 is light and fresh and they have carried the paint colour around the full space including the build-in shelving.
I really like the idea of painting shelving to blending seamlessly with the surrounding walls, it allows any items used on the shelves to become the feature and draw your eye to them.
Now, I know we’re here for the paint colour but this mirror belonging to @dunmoredecor is perfect for this bathroom!
Peignoir works lovely with gold accents and soft grey tones as proven in this image above. There are many colour palettes that you can pair Peignoir with (more on this later) but this corner of this bathroom is a great example of pairing soft, delicate colours together for a great result.
For a traditional style of bathroom, @ahomeinthetropics has used Peignoir on panelling to frame the beautiful roll top bath, and it looks great!
Keeping warmth in the space by using wood and botanicals has ensured they’ve created a relaxing and welcoming space perfect for having a soak in at the end of a long day.
Would Peignoir suit your bathroom?
Other Great Examples of Peignoir (No. 286) by Farrow & Ball
This lovely dressing and work area by @living_at_laurel shows how Peignoir can look in a loft space with lots of angles and natural daylight. The result is a great relaxing space to work in.
You must have noticed by now how different this paint colour looks in each beautiful space I have shared.
This beautiful room by @inside.rose.house has paired Peignoir with warm wood and pink accessories. This really brings out the pink tones of this paint colour and softens the feel of the room. This colour palette especially helps to soften rooms where there are large solid pieces of furniture.
Lastly, @no5_spinney has created a dream space by using Peignoir on both walls and wardrobes doors.
By taking the paint colour to the full height of the room, helps to blend functional elements of the room with wall details, whilst keeping the space light and fresh.
When choosing which other colour(s) will be in your room design, ensure you collect fabric/colour samples where possible so you can check how the tones work together and which tone Peignoir will look like in your space. Remember, natural light will be the main factor to consider.
Also, whichever look you are going for, I hope these great images featuring Farrow & Ball’s Peignoir paint colour will help to show that it is a versatile colour for many different decor styles and colour combinations.
